Oklahoma Lands Four-Star Notre Dame Transfer DL Jacob Lacey

NCAA Football: Big 12 Championship-Baylor vs Oklahoma

Oklahoma fans got a nice surprise on Thanksgiving as former four-star Notre Dame defensive lineman Jacob Lacey announced his commitment to the Sooners on Thursday afternoon.

The Sooners have shown a need for some help along the defensive line in 2022, and Lacey will certainly provide that in 2023.

A member of the 2019 recruiting class, Lacey came out of high school as the No. 172 player in the country and the No. 15 defensive tackle in the country.

During his time in South Bend, Lacey appeared in 37 total games over four seasons and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Sooners.

After playing in the first four games of the 2022 season for the Irish, Lacey elected to hit the transfer portal and use this season as a redshirt year. In Notre Dame’s 24-17 win over Cal, Lacey recorded two sacks and five tackles in his best game of the season.

Lacey’s addition comes on the heels of Oklahoma landing three other commitments this week. After a huge recruiting weekend in Norman, where the Sooners took down rival Oklahoma State, Oklahoma has added four commitments in the last six days: three-star defensive lineman Ashton Sanders, three-star defensive end Taylor Wein, No. 1 JUCO CB Kendel Dolby, and now Lacey.

Oklahoma’s 2023 class currently sits at No. 7 in the country, but the Sooners are still in play for a few big names in this class, including Peyton Bowen and David Hicks. How the Sooners do down the stretch with those two will likely determine how aggressive their coaching staff will be in the transfer portal this offseason. Either way, the Sooners’ roster will look completely different than it did coming into 2022.
