Big 12 Women’s Basketball Week 4 Preview, Schedule, TV Info

Brandon Schneider

The fourth week of the 2022-23 Big 12 women’s basketball season is here. Our Week 4 primer gets you ready for the week ahead in Big 12 basketball.

Below you’ll find our game of the week, our mid-major danger game of the week, notes to watch, the week’s schedule with TV information, and links to other useful college basketball information during the season.

Game of the Week

Texas A&M at Kansas, Wednesday. By the time the Aggies get to Lawrence, they will likely have just one loss this season, which came against Duke. Turns out, it’s the only Power 6 program new Aggies coach Joni Taylor and her team have played. Kansas will be the second. The Jayhawks not only put their undefeated record on the line in this game, but they face their first Power 6 opponent. This represents Kansas’ biggest test so far this season.

Mid-Major Danger Game of the Week

South Florida at Texas, Friday. South Florida may waltz into this game undefeated. At worst, the Bulls will have just one loss. They already have wins over Alabama, TCU, and Georgia Tech this season. Before the Bulls face Texas, they’ll face Michigan. The Bulls clearly aren’t afraid to play highly-rated teams. Texas will be glad to have guard Rori Harmon back this week. The Bulls will be a significant test.

Five Players to Watch

G Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, Baylor: Without both Aijha Blackwell (leg) and Dre’una Edwards (eligibility), the freshman is averaging a double-double in nearly 28 minutes per game.

G Holly Kersgieter, Kansas: Her teammate and center, Taiyanna Jackson, is getting plenty of deserved attention. But the All-Big 12 selection is averaging 12.8 points per game.

G Naomie Alnatas, Oklahoma State: The former UMKC player — who transferred to play for her UMKC coach, Jacie Hoyt — leads the Cowgirls with more than 15 points per game.

G Tomi Taiwo, TCU: She’s averaging more than 14 points per game so far. Last season she averaged less than five points per game at Iowa.

C Jazmaine Lewis, Texas Tech: Put the 6-foot-4 center on your radar. She’s giving the Lady Raiders more than eight points and five rebounds in just 16 minutes per game.

Team to Watch

Kansas State. The Wildcats finally absorbed a loss, coming against Arkansas in the Paradise Jam. The Wildcats are off until the weekend when they host SMU. Don’t take the Mustangs lightly. They pushed Baylor on the road two weeks ago. If the Wildcats want to position themselves as a team to watch in the big 12, they need that bounce-back win, especially after a week’s layoff.

What Else to Watch?

This SHOULD be a feast week for the Big 12, in terms of victories. But I’m curious about the Oklahoma-Ole Miss game, if only because it’s the only other Power 6 game on the docket.

T-Rob Watch

Oklahoma guard Taylor Robertson is the Big 12 and Oklahoma career 3-Point record holder as she entered the season with 446 3-pointers. In her last season in Norman, she has the chance to leave as the all-time NCAA leader in made 3-pointers, male or female. In each primer, we’ll track her progress.

Taylor Robertson: 463 (through six games)

Men’s leader: Fletcher McGee (Wofford), 509

Needed to pass McGee: 47

Women’s leader: Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State), 497

Needed to pass Mitchell: 34
