AP Top 25 Men: Texas leads Five Big 12 Teams in Poll

Five Big 12 teams are among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s fourth week of games.

The Big 12 ranked teams included:

Texas at No. 2 (No. 2 last week);

 

Kansas at No. 6 (No. 9 last week);

Baylor at No. 12 (No. 6 last week);

Iowa State at No. 20 (No. 23 last week);

TCU at No. 24 (was receiving votes last week).

Three other Big 12 teams received votes — Texas Tech with 10, West Virginia with 8, and Kansas State with one.

Houston — which joins the league next fall — remained the No. 1 team in the nation for the second straight week.

Texas (6-0) played just one game last week. But the Longhorns beat then-Top 10 Creighton at home. Texas is in New York City early this week for a contest with No. 17 Illinois in the Jimmy V Classic. 

Kansas (8-1) went 2-0 last week, beating Texas Southern and Seton Hall. The Jayhawks play Missouri this weekend and Indiana — which is No. 14 — the following week.

Baylor (6-2) went 1-1 for the week. The Bears fell to Marquette in the Big 12-Big EAST Battle game and then beat Gonzaga by a point in a neutral site game in South Dakota. Gonzaga dropped to 18 with the loss.

Iowa State (7-1) went 2-0 for the week. The Cyclones beat North Dakota and St. John’s. The Cyclones face Iowa later this week in the annual Cy-Hawk game.

TCU (6-1) returns to the Top 25 this week. The Horned Frogs beat Providence in the Big 12-Big EAST Battle last week.
