Texas Leads Nine Big 12 Men’s Teams in Latest Bracketology

For the second straight week, nine Big 12 men’s basketball teams made the cut in ESPN’s Bracketology for the Men’s NCAA Tournament next March.

Nine of the league’s 10 teams made an appearance last week. Oklahoma State is the only team that is not in the field, But, the Cowboys are among the first eight teams out of the tournament, per Jerry Palm.

Along with one Big 12 team earning a No. 1 seed in a region, future Big 12 member Houston was the No. 1 overall seed for the second week in a row.

The nine Big 12 teams in the projected field are:


Texas, No. 1 seed in the South Region (Louisville)

Kansas, No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region (Kansas City)

Baylor, No. 3 seed in the West Region (Las Vegas)

Iowa State, No. 7 seed in the East Region (New York)

West Virginia, No. 8 seed in the West Region (Las Vegas)

Texas Tech, No. 9 seed in the Midwest Region (Kansas City)

TCU, No. 9 seed in the East Region (New York)

Oklahoma, No. 10 seed in the South Region (Louisville)

Kansas State, No. 11 seed in the Midwest Region (Kansas City)

Texas remained a No. 1 seed and is the No. 2 team in the country behind the No. 1 Houston Cougars. Texas played Illinois on Tuesday. Texas would play Northern Colorado in the first round.

Kansas moved up one seed after winning two games last week. The change in seeding would allow the Jayhawks to play in Kansas City in the Sweet 16. The Jayhawks would face SIUE-Edwardsville in the first round.

Baylor dropped one seed after a 1-1 week that saw the Bears lose to Marquette and beat Gonzaga. The Bears would play Oral Roberts in the first round.

Iowa State moved up two seeds lines after a 2-0 ledger last week and would play Utah State in the first round.

West Virginia stayed at No. 8 for the second straight week and would play Marquette in the first round.

Texas Tech dropped two seed lines even though the Red Raiders won a game last week. The Red Raiders would play Memphis in the first round, which sets up a second-round game with Houston.

TCU moved up a seed line after an undefeated week and moved into a first-round game against Wisconsin.


Oklahoma remained in the field and drew a first-round game with Miami (FL).

Kansas State dropped a seed from a week ago after its loss to Butler last week. Right now the Wildcats are one of the last four teams in the tournament. They would play a First Four game against Michigan State.

Houston is undefeated and No. 1 in the country. The Cougars would be the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and face either Norfolk State or Sacred Heart in the first round. The Cougars are one of four teams joining the Big 12 next season, along with BYU, Cincinnati and UCF.
