NCAA Football: Kansas at Texas Christian

TCU finally has a winner for an award named after one of its own.

TCU senior quarterback Max Duggan is the winner of the Davey O’ Brien Award, the honor named after the former TCU quarterback. The award is given to the nation’s best quarterback.

Duggan finished the 2022 season throwing for 3,321 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He added 404 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground on 112 carries.

During his collegiate career, Duggan has played 45 games for the Horned Frogs. He has thrown for 9,241 yards, 71 touchdowns, and just 24 interceptions during that time. In the rushing game, he has totaled 1,837 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on 463 carries throughout his career.

Last Saturday, Duggan and TCU lost the Big 12 championship to Kansas State in overtime, but Duggan was the reason the Horned Frogs got to the extra period, as he led the team on an epic game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter, while adding a two-point conversion. For the game, he threw for 251 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He added 110 rushing yards on the ground and one touchdown on just 15 carries.

Even with a loss in the Big 12 championship, Duggan and the Horned Frogs will play Michigan in the College Football Playoff in the Fiesta Bowl on December 31st.
