TCU cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson was named the winner of the 2022 Jim Thorpe Award at ESPN’s “Home Depot College Football Awards Show” on Thursday night.
The Paycom Jim Thorpe Award is presented annually to the nation’s top defensive back by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
Hodges-Tomlinson is the second Horned Frog to win the award in the last three seasons, joining former TCU safety and now Las Vegas Raider, Tre’Von Moehrig.
Hodges-Tomlison’s play in the backend of the Horned Frogs’ defense was a large part of their success this season, and one of the main reasons that TCU is 12-1 and headed to their first College Football Playoff appearance in school history.
Hodges-Tomlinson has been awarded first-team All-Big 12 honors in each of the past three seasons and was an honorable mention for the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year this season. Hodges-Tomlinson played the most snaps of any Big 12 cornerback this season (857) and forced a turnover in four-straight games this season with three interceptions and one forced fumble.
On the year, Hodges-Tomlinson totaled 42 tackles on the season, including two for loss, with three interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a forced fumble.
