Iowa State Cancels Basketball Games vs. Omaha, Drake Due to Inclement Weather

An arctic blast is set to hit the midwest just before the holiday weekend and with it, extreme temperature drops are in the forecast. On Thursday night, a low temperature of -11°F is set to hit Ames, Iowa, with a wind chill of -32°F.

That, combined with the possibility of 6-10 inches of snow in the forecast has led Iowa State to cancel its scheduled men’s and women’s basketball games against Omaha and Drake respectively.

The athletic department announced Tuesday that the men’s game against Omaha on Wednesday and the women’s game against Drake on Thursday will not be rescheduled.

“After consulting with both Omaha and Drake, we believe that canceling both games today will afford the student-athletes from all four teams the opportunity to depart ahead of the storm and return safely to their homes to spend the holidays with their families,” Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said.

Fans who purchased single-game tickets for either contest will be issued a refund.

The Cyclone men and women will pick up the action again on December 31. The men will be home for their Big 12 opener against the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears while the 14th-ranked women will head to Lubbock to face Texas Tech.
