The Baylor Bears are reportedly one of three teams that have been invited to participate in the men’s Preseason NIT at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, next season.
College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein reported the invitations.
Baylor, Florida and Pitt are expected to be in the NIT. The fourth team has not been announced.
Iowa State won the last Preseason NIT, played in 2021. The Cyclones beat Xavier and Memphis — both ranked in the Top 25 at the time — to win the event, enter the AP Top 25 and announce their resurgence under coach T.J. Otzelberger. The Cyclones ultimately reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Rothstein reported that the dates for the event are not set, but it is traditionally played on Thanksgiving weekend.
Baylor has not played in the Preseason NIT since it started in 1985.
Baylor is coming off a 58-48 win over Northwestern State on Tuesday night. The Bears have one more game against Nicholls State on Dec. 28 before opening Big 12 action against Iowa State on New Year’s Eve. The Bears are 9-2 and ranked No. 12 in the country.
Florida is coming off a 62-53 loss to Oklahoma in the Jumpman Invitational on Tuesday. The Gators are 7-5 on the season and are preparing for SEC play, which starts on Dec. 28 when they travel to Auburn.
Pitt is 9-4 after beating Syracuse, 84-82, in ACC action on Tuesday. The Panthers have turned things around despite losing their first of their first four games of the season, including the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia. Pitt is preparing to continue ACC action against North Carolina on Dec. 30.
