Georgia Beats Ohio State, Will Face TCU In National Championship

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs will take on the TCU Horned Frogs after defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal in Atlanta on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs (13-1) and the Georgia Bulldogs (14-0) will face each other in the College Football Playoff national championship game on Monday, Jan. 9, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
In a game as dramatic as the Fiesta Bowl earlier on Saturday, the Bulldogs took the lead for good with 54 seconds left on a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Stetson Bennett to Adonai Mitchell.
But Ohio State (11-2) still had a chance to win the game, as quarterback C.J. Stroud drove the Buckeyes into field goal range in the final seconds. But kicker Noah Ruggles’ attempt from nearly 50 yards was wide left.
Stroud had an incredible game for the Buckeyes, throwing for 348 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another 34 yards.
His counterpart, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett threw for 398 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
The Bulldogs, the defending national champions, will seek to become the third team to win more than one national championship since the College Football Playoff began eight years ago. Alabama has won three national titles and Clemson has won two.
Earlier Saturday, TCU defeated Michigan, 51-45, in the Fiesta Bowl. It was the first time the Horned Frogs played in a College Football Playoff game and the first CFP victory for any Big 12 Conference team. Oklahoma had made four prior semifinal appearance but lost all four.
Georgia is 4-0 against TCU all-time, with two of those games coming in bowl games. The last meeting was in 2016 when the two teams met in the Liberty Bowl, with Georgia winning, 31-23.
