The Oklahoma Sooners could certainly use some help along the defensive line after struggling there in 2022, and it appears that they are making a push for one of the top transfer defensive linemen in the portal.
Davon Sears Jr., who just wrapped up the 2022 season at Texas State, has narrowed his list of potential destinations down to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Penn State.
Sears, listed at 6-3, 290 pounds, was the No. 11 DL in JUCO in 2019 according to 247Sports and the No. 60 overall player at that level. Since entering the portal, Sears has drawn quite a bit of attention and has offers from the three teams listed above along with USC, Miami, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and Houston among others.
On Tuesday, Sears retweeted his Top Three with an hourglass emoji, pointing at the potential of a decision to come soon.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables would sure like to bring a player like Sears to Oklahoma to add some quality play to the interior of a defensive line that struggled immensely in 2022.
The Sooners will likely be in play for several other defensive transfers as well, so stay tuned Sooner fans because there is a full-blown roster rebuild going on in Norman.
