Baylor basketball landed the commitment of five-star center Yves Missi on Wednesday, beating out Texas and Stanford for the coveted 2024 recruit.
Messi’s commitment to the Bears is non-binding. The earliest he can sign with the Bears is November.
But, if the Bears hold his commitment, they’ll have another five-star player to add to its overflowing 2024 class. Missi is currently the No. 18 player in the nation per 247Sports.com. He plays his prep basketball at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif.
Just about every major program in the country was in pursuit of Missi, but he announced on Twitter last week that he narrowed his choices to the Bears, the Cardinal and the Longhorns.
Baylor already has two commitments for the Class of 2024, one of which is a five-star player. Forward Jason Asemota of Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Ariz., is the other five-star recruit and ranked No 14 in the nation by 247Sports.
The other commit is Rob Wright, a 6-foot guard from Neumann Goretti in Philadelphia. He’s the No. 84 recruit in the country.
Even before Missi’s commitment on Wednesday, Baylor had the No. 2 Class of 2024 in the country, per 247Sports.
Baylor has landed at least one five-star player in each of the last three recruiting cycles, during which the Bears won the 2021 national championship.
Baylor just landed Link Academy’s Ja’Kobe Walter for the 2023 Class, who is ranked No. 17 in the country.
For 2022, Keyonte George was the five-star recruit. From IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., the No. 8 ranked recruit is starting for the Bears this season.
Forward Kendall Brown was the five-star in the Class of 2021 and was ranked No. 14 in the country. He played one season and moved on to professional basketball.
