Oklahoma DB C.J. Coldon Declares for 2023 NFL Draft

Oklahoma lost one of its best defensive backs on Wednesday evening as redshirt senior C.J. Coldon declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Coldon spent one season in Norman and made quite the impact down the stretch with 40 tackles, six pass deflections, and a team-leading four interceptions.

Although he began the 2022 season as a depth piece doe the Sooners, Coldon worked his way into the rotation midway through the season and earned starts in Oklahoma’s last three games.

Prior to coming to OU, Coldon spent four seasons with the Wyoming Cowboys and was an all-conference type player there. Over the course of his career, Coldon totaled 155 tackles, six interceptions, and 22 passes defended.

With Coldon headed to the next level, Oklahoma will need players like Gentry Williams and Jaden Davis to step up next season. The Sooners did have Woodi Washington announce that he will return in 2023 as well as several blue-chip defensive backs coming in the 2023 recruiting class.

While the loss of Coldon does hurt, the Sooners have several pieces that can contribute next year to make up for the void he leaves.

Coldon joins Brayden Willis, DeShaun White, Jalen Redmond, Eric Gray, Wanya Morris, and Anton Harrison as Sooners who have declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
