Oklahoma Lands Wake Forest Star EDGE Rondell Bothroyd

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are attacking the transfer portal after a disappointing 6-7 season in 2022 and are looking to address issues among several position groups.

One of the main areas that the Sooners needed to improve was along the defensive line, and on Sunday they made a major addition to the room.

Wake Forest transfer EDGE Rondell Bothroyd announced that he would use his final year of eligibility to play in Venables’ system in Norman, and in doing so filled a major void in the Oklahoma defense.

In five years with the Demon Deacons, Bothroyd piled up 136 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 30.5 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles.

Lised at 6-4, 258 pounds, Bothroyd was one of the most coveted players in the portal this cycle and was rated as the No. 4 EDGE prospect in the 2023 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.

With Bothroyd’s commitment, the Sooners now have pledges from the No. 4 EDGE and the No. 2 EDGE in the portal, with Indiana transfer Dasan McCullough headed to Norman as well.

At Wake Forest, Bothroyd was a team captain and a difference-maker for the Demon Deacons over the past two seasons. Getting him to Norman was a major win for the Oklahoma staff, a he chose OU over offers from Auburn and Penn State.
