Country music legend Toby Keith is one of the biggest Oklahoma fans that walks the face of the earth, and many times you will find him on the sidelines of some of their biggest games.
Last night, the Sooners ran into a second-half buzzsaw of an offense in Stillwater and lost 72-56 in Gallaher IBA, and Toby was in attendance.
After the loss, Toby hit Eskimo Joe’s with a slew of Oklahoma State fans surrounding and in “hostile territory” he did the smart thing and appealed to the crowd’s senses. Instead of chanting “Boomer Sooner” like his heart was likely telling him to, Keith led the Cowboy Choir in a rendition of his first No. 1 song and first platinum record, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”
Despite the hostility between fan bases, it’s a well-known fact in the Sooner State that Toby Keith is a man of the people and lived up to that billing last night as he was apparently buying shots at Eskimo Joe’s in Stillwater, as was Oklahoma’s legendary head coach Barry Switzer.
It will surely be a shame to see these two schools forego the opportunity to play each other in every sport going forward. Even though the rivalry is heated, Oklahomans are still just good folks regardless of whether they’re wearing Crimson or Orange.
