Texas Tech Lands Oregon Linebacker Terrell Tilmon

NCAA Football: Houston at Texas Tech

Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders picked up a commitment from Oregon transfer linebacker Terrell Tilmon on Thursday, marking their sixth commitment out of the portal.

Tilmon, listed at 6-5, 225 pounds, will play outside linebacker for the Red Raiders after starting out his career there but playing tight end for the Ducks this past season. In 2022, Tilmon only appeared in one game, after playing in 14 games and recording five tackles as a freshman in 2021.

Now, as he reunites with former Ducks’ defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter in Lubbock, Tilmon will make the transition back to the defensive side of the football where he can make more of an impact.

Joey McGuire has his Red Raiders firing on all cylinders on the recruiting trail, as they currently have one of their best classes in history with the No. 23 class in the country in 2023, with Tilmon being the 33rd commitment of the cycle.

Tilmon played high school football at Mansfield Timberview (TX) and is much closer to home as he brings three years of eligibility with him to Lubbock. Interestingly enough, Tilmon and the Red Raiders will take on his former team on September 9, in Tech’s first home game of the 2023 season.
