Ashley Joens Selected to John Wooden Award Top 20

Iowa State’s Ashley Joens is the only Big 12 Conference player on the John R. Wooden Women’s Late Season Top 20 watch list, released on Monday.
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2022-23 season thus far, the list comprises of 20 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.
Joens and the Cyclones are tied for first place in the Big 12 standings entering this week with the Texas Longhorns.
Joens is already the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in the history of the program. She is also the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the Cyclones to a 2-0 week.
Joens is averaging 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented following the NCAA Tournament in April. Last year’s winner, South Carolina forward Aliyah Boston, is among the players on the Top 20 list.
