OSU’s Kalib Boone, Texas’ Sir’Jabari Rice Earn Big 12 Men’s Weekly Honors
After another entertaining week of basketball, Oklahoma State’s Kalib Boone and Texas’ Sir’Jabari Rice have been named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively.
Oklahoma State picked up two victories last week, while Texas picked up two huge victories over Kansas State and Baylor.
Here’s what the Big 12 press release had to say about each of them after terrific weeks.
Boone averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as the surging Cowboys have won three straight games and five of the last six. The senior forward recorded a career-high 25 points in the home win over No. 15 TCU and added 18 points earlier in the week at Oklahoma as OSU swept the Bedlam series. Boone shot .760 (19-25) for the week while adding three assists and two steals.
Rice averaged a team-best 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in 21.1 minutes per contest in leading Texas to Top 11 wins over No. 11 Baylor and at No. 7 K-State. He converted 7-of-13 (.538) from the floor, including 6-of-9 (.667) from 3-point range, and 15-of-17 (.882) free throws. In the win against BU, the graduate guard tied a season-high with 21 points and added six rebounds in 24 minutes. He returned to record his first double-double as a Longhorn with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 18 minutes at K-State on Saturday as Texas continues at the top of the league standings.
