Baylor Bears

Three Must-Watch Big 12 Women’s Basketball Games for Week of Feb. 13

NCAA Womens Basketball: Texas Tech at Baylor

Here are the top three Big 12 women’s basketball games for the week of Feb. 13 as the league heads toward the final three weeks of the season.

Note: Oklahoma State and TCU have the mid-week games off.

Texas at Iowa State, 6 p.m. CT Monday, ESPN2

This may not be a battle of ranked teams by the time the game tips off, as the Cyclones have lost their last three games. But, the game is in Ames, where the Cyclones draw well and Ashley Joens seems to play well. Plus, Texas has had troubles away from home. Texas is just 4-3 on the road. Rori Harmon and company have won nine of their last 10 games and when the two teams met in Austin last month, the Longhorns won, 68-53. ISU is looking to stop the bleeding. Texas has a one-game lead over Oklahoma in the Big 12 and wants to keep it.

Kansas at West Virginia, 6 p.m. CT Wednesday, Big 12 Now/ESPN+

An awfully interesting game, especially for West Virginia, which still harbors dreams of slipping into the NCAA Tournament and just beat Iowa State at home. It was the Mountaineers’ second win over a ranked team this season (Baylor). WVU is 10-2 at home and the Mountaineers’ holdovers — Jayla Hemingway, JJ Quinerly, and Madisen Smith are leading the way. Kansas, led by Taiyanna Jackson and Holly Kersgieter, looks comfortably in the NCAA Field. But, Kansas is only .500 in Big 12 play and sitting on 16 wins. The Jayhawks are also 4-5 on the road.

Iowa State at Baylor, 5 p.m. Saturday, Big 12 Now/ESPN+

If the Cyclones are unable to beat Texas, then they have five days to think about a four-game losing streak and a flight to Waco. ISU will be in desperation mode. Thing is, Baylor isn’t exactly in a great place right now. The Bears are coming off one of their worst losses in the Big 12 in recent memory, falling on the road to Oklahoma State, 77-56. Baylor, led by Caitlin Bickle and Sarah Andrews, are looking to get right after a two-game losing streak. Further fueling the desperation is that both are much closer to the No. 7 seed in Kansas City than each would like to be — just a game ahead of Kansas and West Virginia.
