Oklahoma State’s Kelly Maxwell Named D1Softball Pitcher of the Week

Last season, we saw Kelly Maxwell separate herself as one of the top pitchers in the country as she led Oklahoma State to within one win of an appearance in the WCWS Championship series.
If the first weekend of 2023 is any indication, Maxwell might be the standard in the circle again in the sport this year.
Maxwell appeared in two games this weekend, and was spectacular again with a duo of dominating performances. In fact, she was impressive enough that she’s been named the D1Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Here’s what D1Softball had to say about her opening weekend at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
“The Cowgirls ace was 2-0 with 0.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and only two walks in 13.0 innings pitched at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge. Maxwell opened the season with a 15-strikeout, two-hit shutout against Oregon in which she didn’t walk a single batter in 92 pitches. The redshirt senior bookended the event by throwing six shutout innings against Ole Miss with eight strikeouts. The Cowgirls won both games 3-0.“
Maxwell and Oklahoma State are back in action this week at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational and will open up the action with two games on Thursday against Texas A&M and Nebraska.
