NFCA Top 25: Oklahoma Holds Firm at No. 1, OSU, Texas Fall After Losses

The Oklahoma Sooners are one of 10 remaining undefeated teams in the Top 25 and the only team in the Big 12 to remain undefeated after a tough opening weekend.

With victories over Washington (12), Duke (16), Stanford (19), and Liberty (RV), the Sooners did enough to remain the unanimous pick at No. 1 in the Week 1 polls.

Oklahoma State, who began the season at No. 3, went 3-1 in their first weekend with wins over Oregon (No. 24), Ole Miss (RV), and North Carolina. However, an 11-6 loss to Maryland (No. 23) put a damper on the weekend and dropped the Cowgirls to No. 5 in this week’s poll.

Texas, who had arguably the toughest opening weekend scheduled, went 2-1-1 in their first four games. A season-opening 11-1 win over Missouri (RV) was impressive, but a loss to Northwestern and what should’ve been a loss to Kentucky dropped the Longhorns three spots to No. 9 in this week’s poll.

Baylor, who opened the year at 4-1, played an inspired game against Arkansas (No. 4) losing 11-7 in the end. The Bears came into the season receiving two votes, but jumped up to 11 votes after a promising start to the year.
