Big 12 Flourishes in This Week’s Top 25

For the first time since midway through the 2021 season, the Big 12 Conference has four teams in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. Baylor, fresh off its upset over Oklahoma, joins the Sooners, as well as Oklahoma State and Texas in this week’s version of the Top 25.
The Bears shockingly took down Oklahoma 4-3 in the Getterman Classic, their first win in the series since 2017, and subsequently ascended to No. 25. The Sooners, meanwhile, dropped to No. 2 for the first time in quite some time, though they did still pick up three first-place votes.
Oklahoma State, following a 5-0 week at the Clearwater Invitational, jumped back to its preseason spot at No. 3. Texas still checks in at No. 9.
With Oklahoma dropping out of the top spot, UCLA took over atop the poll with 29 first-place votes. Florida and Clemson join the Sooners and Cowgirls in the Top 5, at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.
The rest of the Top 10 includes Florida State, Arkansas and Washington in Nos. 6-8, respectively, and Virginia Tech at No. 10.
Oklahoma returns to action this weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with contests against Cal State Fullerton, Texas A&M, Utah, Loyola Marymount and UCLA. Oklahoma State takes on New Mexico, Nebraska, CSU Bakersfield and New Mexico State in the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.
Texas is up against Virginia Tech twice, Abilene Christian and Texas Southern in the Lone Star State Invitational. Kansas will also be in town, but the two Big 12 teams won’t meet each other. Baylor welcomes Maryland, Minnesota and Texas A&M-Commerce for a mini tournament in Waco.
