NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Texas Christian

The last week of the 2022-23 Big 12 men’s basketball season is here. Here, we highlight the three games we believe will be the best for the week of Feb. 27-March 4.

West Virginia at Iowa State, 8 p.m. Monday, ESPN2

West Virginia will be desperate for a win 48 hours after nearly beating Kansas. Iowa State is suddenly vulnerable at Hilton Coliseum, having lost two home games this month. The guards will be critical in this game. For West Virginia, that means big games from Erik Stevenson, Kedrian Johnson and Joe Toussaint. For Iowa State that means big games from Gabe Kalscheur, Caleb Grill and Jaren Holmes. If there is an X-Factor in this game it’s West Virginia forward Tre Mitchell, who is coming off a big game against Kansas and the Mountaineers could use that again on Monday.

Texas at TCU, 8 p.m. Wednesday, ESPN2

TCU is starting to look right again, thanks to the return of guard Mike Miles. If you watched the Horned Frogs beat Texas Tech you saw them win in Lubbock for the first time since 2015. TCU won because it played well as a team. Yes, Miles got them going. But late in that contest other players stepped up. Texas is coming off a road loss at Baylor where the Longhorns really didn’t look like themselves. Dylan Disu had a fantastic game, but the rest of the roster didn’t show up until the last five minutes when the game was settled. Texas can’t have another slow road start, especially against a TCU team that is comfortable at home and is the best fast-break offense in college basketball.

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech, 5 p.m. Saturday, ESPN2

It will be the Big 12’s last regular-season game it could mean a lot in determining which of these two teams makes the NCAA Tournament. Entering the week both the Cowboys and the Red Raiders are bubble teams. Oklahoma State is inside the bubble. Texas Tech is outside the bubble. The Red Raiders need every win they can get to have a shot to qualify. Texas Tech is trending up, having won six of its last nine games. Oklahoma State is trending down, having lost its last four. It should be raucous ending to the regular season in Lubbock.
