Arrest Warrant Issued for Georgia DL, Potential First-Round Pick Jalen Carter

NCAA Football: Sugar Bowl-Georgia vs Texas

An arrest warrant has been issued for Georgia star defensive lineman and potential first-round selection Jalen Carter in connection with a fatal crash that killed one of his teammates and a Georgia staffer back in January.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Carter was operating a vehicle in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving downtown Athens at around 2:30 a.m. on January 15, 2023.

Seth Emerson of The Athletic was the first to report the issued arrest warrant on Wednesday morning.

Carter is considered by many to be the top draft prospect in this year’s class and was heavily in the discussion to be taken with a top-three pick before this report surfaced.

It is worth noting that the charges against Carter for reckless driving and racing are both misdemeanors, but it could end up costing Carter financially. Rated as the top overall prospect in this year’s draft by Mel Kiper Jr., Carter will now have to explain this to NFL execs who are looking to invest in him.

Devin Willock, an offensive lineman for the Bulldogs, and recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy were those killed in the accident back in January, just days after the Bulldogs’ 65-7 win over TCU in the National Championship.
