Saturday Six-Pack: West Virginia, Oklahoma Baseball Shine in Big Wins

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
West Virginia vs Canisius
This certainly wasn’t the best matchup on paper going into the weekend but it ended up being a really good game to watch. The Mountaineers got on the board first when Landon Wallace drove in a run in the second inning. Of course, superstar JJ Wetherholt had to get in the mix as well as he made it 2-0 in the fifth inning. From there, Canisius scored two runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game but Dayne Leonard was the man who brought in the run to give West Virginia the lead again. After that, the Mountaineers were able to lock up the 3-2 victory.
Biggest Win
Oklahoma over Mississippi State
I know Mississippi State isn’t what they were two years ago but they are still very much a program who is well respected in the college baseball world. This game was all Oklahoma from start to finish. The Sooners scored eight runs in the first three innings and never looked back. Oklahoma went on to score a total of 15 runs in this game as the rocked the Bulldog pitchers the entire time. It was a very impressive win for a struggling Oklahoma team and they look to go 3-0 in the Frisco College Baseball Classic.
Worst Loss
Baylor vs Youngstown State
The good news is that the Bears did win the first game on Saturday however they did fall short in the second game later on. I didn’t have many options to choose from here because the Big 12 only lost two games yesterday. I couldn’t put TCU here for losing to Louisville so Baylor was really my only choice. However, the Bears will get a chance to split the series if they win on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday MVP
Oklahoma C Easton Carmichael
While he didn’t hit a home run, Easton did help lead his team past Mississippi State on Saturday in the Frisco College Baseball Classic. He ended up with a team high five RBIs on the day which is very impressive. The Sooners are really starting to look better over the last few days and having guys like Easton Carmichael step up is huge.
Pitcher of the Day
West Virginia LHP Ben Hampton
Once again, another West Virginia earns pitcher of the day. Ben Hampton is West Virginia’s ace and someone who a lot of people have been buzzing about since last season. Ben pitched almost eight full innings and struck out seven batters. He also gave up just one run during his time on the mound.
Best Home Run
TCU C Karson Bowen
While TCU fell short against Louisville, Karson’s home run got the Frogs right back in the game with his two run blast in the eighth inning.
