Markquis Nowell Listed as Bob Cousy Award Finalist

Kansas State Wildcats point guard Markquis Nowell has been officially listed as one of the five finalists for the Bob Cousy Award.
The Bob Cousy Award is the trophy given to the best point guard in the nation and with Nowell’s incredible season, it’s no surprise to see his name on the list.
Nowell is joined by fourth other guards in the final vote with Marquette’s Tyler Kolek, Northwestern’s Boo Buie, Penn State’s Jalen Pickett, and Saint Louis’ Yuri Collins.
Nowell was named to the All-Big 12 First Team squad as well as the All-Defensive Team by the league coaches on March 5 joined by his teammate and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Keyontae Johnson. Nowell was also selected to the Midseason National Player of the Year Watch Lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, John R. Wooden Award, and the Naismith Award presented by Jersey Mike’s. per the universities website.
Nowell is averaging 17 PPG on 37.6% shooting from the field, including 35.6% from 3-point range, and 88.5% from the free throw line to go along with a Big 12-best 7.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in 36.4 minutes per game. The 5-foot-7 guard from Harlem ranks in the Big 12’s top-3 in 13 different categories, including total assists (238), assists per game, free throws made (162), free throws attempted (183), free throw percentage, steals (76), steals per game, and minutes.
Nowell finished Big 12 play, ranking first in 6 different categories, including scoring with 19.5 PPG, 3-point field goals per game with 2.8, assists averaging a whopping 7.2 per game, 2.8 steals per game, free throw percentage with 91.1, and minutes per game with 38.8.
It’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not Nowell wins the award as the five players mentioned all have Cousy Award resumes this season but regardless of if Nowell takes the award home or not, his stellar season will be remembered by Big 12 fans forever, especially if the Cats can go on a run in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
