TCU’s Eddie Lampkin Jr. Did Not Travel With Team to Big 12 Tournament: Report

TCU big man Eddie Lampkin Jr. did not travel with the Horned Frogs to Kansas City for the Big 12 Basketball Tournament, according to a report from Frogs Today.
Team officials told Frogs Today that Lampkin has stepped away from the team to deal with personal matters and didn’t get on the plane ahead of this week’s conference tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday night.
TCU is set to begin tournament play against No. 3 seed Kansas State on Thursday night, with tip scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
This is the second time during the course of the 2022-23 season that Lampkin has stepped away from the team for personal reasons.
Over the past two seasons, Lampkin has started 51 games for the Horned Frogs, averaging 5.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Lampkin suffered a high-ankle sprain during TCU’s 83-60 win over Kansas on January 21, and has been dealing with ankle issues throughout conference play since then.
In Lampkin’s absense, Xavier Cork and JaKobe Coles wil play significant minutes but this is a huge blow for the Horned Frogs’ chances at making a run.
With Lampkin seemingly out of the lineup, TCU will struggle to replace his impact defensively and on the boards, two things that Jamie Dixon’s squad has built its success upon.
