Jalen Wilson Passes Wilt Chamberlain on Kansas All-Time Scoring List

Any time you’re in the same discussion with Wilt Chamberlain, you’re in mighty good company. And that’s exactly where Kansas forward Jalen Wilson is; in fact, he’s ahead of the former Jayhawks legend now in the all-time scoring department, knocking home his 1,435th point Saturday evening in the Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship against Texas.
On his way there, Wilson has been incredibly efficient, with a 9-for-19 performance for 24 points. That includes a couple 3-pointers on five tries, to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
Unfortunately for Wilson, the support hasn’t exactly been there in what turned out to be a 76-56 blowout loss to the Longhorns. Only one other player joined him in double figures.
Wilson entered the Big 12 Tournament just more than 30 points shy of the 1,400 mark. He then exploded for 22 on 9-of-17 shooting in the quarterfinals against West Virginia and an even better 25 on 8-of-14 shooting in the semifinals against Iowa State.
With these three outbursts, the 6-foot-8 veteran has now eclipsed the 20-point threshold 19 times this season. Interestingly enough, Kansas is only 3-3 when he passes the 20-point mark, so his 24 is a bit of a misnomer.
The next chance for Wilson to build upon his standing will now come in the NCAA Tournament, as the Jayhawks will look to run it back-to-back. They’ll almost certainly be a No. 1 seed, but their standing as the top overall seed is now very much in question for Selection Sunday.
