Oklahoma G Benny Schröder Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma at Kansas

The Oklahoma Sooners are losing their first player of the 2023 offseason to the transfer portal with the departure of freshman guard, Benny Schröder.

Schröder appeared in six games with the Sooners for a total of 25 minutes played this season. In that timeframe, Schröder scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The freshman from Germany announced his decision via Instagram in a post that reads, “My time at OU has been a great experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this program. I want to thank my coaches, teammates and the OU family for their support. After much consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”

Schröder’s time with the Sooners came to an end after a disappointing loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 57-49, in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. The Sooners were not only one of the most lackluster teams in Big 12 play, the team also is staring at a move to the SEC, which has proven to be a tough basketball conference, not unlike the Big 12.

Porter Moser and the rest of the Oklahoma staff will have a lot of questions to answer heading into next season but for now, the Sooners’ recent years with the Big 12 have been rocky at best.
