Friday Six-Pack: Texas Tech Wins in Extras While TCU Dominates

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Florida State vs Texas Tech

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

#22 Texas Tech vs #12 Oklahoma State

Of course, the game between the two ranked teams ended up being the best game of the entire evening. The Cowboys got on the board early with two runs in the first inning thanks to Carson Benge. He also would add another in the third inning before Oklahoma State went on a roll. Going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cowboys held a 7-1 lead. But then Texas Tech woke up when Austin Green and Ty Coleman put a pair of runs on the scoreboard. The eighth inning is where things picked up even more. A bases loaded walk help put a run across for Texas Tech before Kevin Bazzell and Austin Green helped tie the game at seven. This game ended up going to extras and ended when Gavin Kash drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning. What a game and what a win for the Red Raiders.

Best Win

#11 TCU over Oklahoma

Coming into the weekend, Oklahoma was one of the hottest teams in the Big 12. That changed after Friday as TCU beat up on them in Norman. Ryan Vanderhei took the mound for the Frogs and did a great job against a good offense. He pitched five full innings and allowed just one run. Meanwhile TCU’s offense got going early with Brayden Taylor’s home run in the second inning. The Horned Frogs would end up scoring in four of the last five innings of the game and ended up winning by eight runs despite giving up four runs late. It was a great way for TCU to start the weekend and I was really impressed with the way they won.

Worst Loss

Kansas vs The Citadel

The Jayhawks hit the road once again and ended up playing a doubleheader on Friday due to some weather issues in South Carolina. Unfortunately for Kansas, they lost both games on Friday and lost the series in just a single day. They will get another crack at the Bulldogs on Sunday to avoid the sweep.

Friday MVP

TCU INF Cole Fontenelle

Cole had himself one heck of a game against the Sooners on Friday night. He started his evening off with a big RBI double in the fifth inning and then had a nice two-run double in the eighth. There were a few great performances on Friday, but Cole was deserving of the MVP award.

Pitcher of the Day

Texas LHP Lucas Gordon

Lucas just keeps finding ways to win this award because he keeps on having great starts. Against New Orleans on Friday night, he pitched six full innings and allowed just one run. He also struck out six batters during his time on the mound. It seems like with every single start he gets better.

Best Home Run

TCU C Karson Bowen

The freshman catcher hit an absolute missile to left field to give extend TCU’s lead in the sixth inning. As you can see, he got all of that ball.
