Watch: John Calipari Refers to Markquis Nowell as ‘Little Kid’

Kansas State guard Markquis Nowell.

He may be little, but he won’t be forgotten by Kentucky head coach John Calipari.

That’s K-State guard Markquis Nowell, who stands at 5’8”, and came up huge for Kansas State in their 75-69 win over Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16.

Nowell had 27 points and nine assists and made some of the most incredible rainbow 3-pointers over taller players you’ll see in a basketball game.

But to John Calipari, he is simply, “little kid”, which is what the legendary head referred to Nowell as in his post-game press conference.

Calipari may also be extra salty about the fact that he has now lost to Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament twice in the last five years. K-State beat Kentucky in the Sweet 16 in 2018, and on Sunday took down Calipari’s team in the Round of 32.

But regardless the reason, shots like this will be giving Calipari nightmares for the entire offseason.

And while Calipari can continue watching game film to figure out what went wrong, the “Little Kid” and the rest of the Kansas State Wildcats are heading from the Little Apple to the Big Apple for a match up with Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night.
