Jon Rothstein: ‘Rodney Terry Deserves the Texas Job Now’

Texas interim basketball coach Rodney Terry.

The Texas Longhorns are the last remaining team from the Big 12 Conference, and with the Longhorns’ blowout win in the Sweet 16, the team is focused on winning it all.

While it’s easy to sit back and say something along the lines of, “Texas was projected to be at the top of the Big 12 anyways, is it really that special?” Yes, it is. The Texas Longhorns are doing all of this with an interim head coach in Rodney Terry, someone who players, fans, and seemingly everyone except Texas AD Chris Del Conte wants to be the full-time coach.

The argument against Rodney Terry isn’t even remotely strong through this point, as Terry has led Texas to the Elite Eight for the first time in 15 years, earned them their second Big 12 Tournament Title all time, and has earned the highest seed for the Longhorns in March since 2008.

The Longhorns still have a few games to go in March, as long as everything goes according to plan, but with each game comes a new task, and as many have said, the Elite Eight is oftentimes the toughest game to win.

Texas tips off with Miami and former K-State Wildcat Nijel Pack at 4:05 p.m. CT in Kansas City, with a chance to advance to the Final Four on the line.
