Sunday Six-Pack: Four Big 12 Teams Complete Sweeps

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six pack.

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

#14 Texas Tech at Texas

Once again, this series stole the show. After a wild ending on Saturday, we got another great finish on Sunday. Texas got the scoring started early with home runs from Peyton Powell and Rylan Galvan that put the Longhorns up 3-0. Owen Washburn would help get Tech on the board, but Texas added two more homers thanks to Jared Thomas and Peyton Powell. Gavin Kash ended up going deep for the Red Raiders to pull his team within three but Dylan Campbell and Peyton Powell were able to put two more runs up to extend their lead to five.

Both teams traded runs in the seventh inning and then Texas Tech had an eighth inning to remember. A walk and a groundout added a pair of runs before Nolen Hester’s two-run single brought the Red Raiders within a run. Drew Woodcox ended up being the guy who tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, but it was Garret Guillemette who stole the show with his walk-off home run. With the win, Texas completed their sweep over Texas Tech.

Best Win

Kansas State over Oklahoma

Since I already talked about the Texas game, I thought I should put the spotlight on Kansas State. After taking the first two games of the series, they were going for the clean sweep on Sunday. The Wildcats had a 3-0 early lead but the Sooners had a monster fourth inning where they scored six runs. Oklahoma would add another run in the seventh but thanks to a couple of big hits by Cash Rugely and Raphael Pelletier, Kansas State tied the game in the eighth inning. Brady Day ended up being the hero in the ninth with his RBI single that brought in the winning run. It was an impressive weekend for Kansas State as they completed their sweep over Oklahoma.

Worst Loss

Kansas

I know Baylor got run ruled on Sunday but Kansas didn’t even score a single run in their 14 run loss to TCU. The Jayhawks had just two hits in seven innings and really struggled on the mound as well. It was certainly a weekend to forget for Kansas down in Fort Worth.

Sunday MVP

Oklahoma State CF Brennan Holt

There were some great performances on Sunday, but it was pretty cool to see Brennan Holt’s walk-off grand slam.

Pitcher of the Day

TCU RHP Cam Brown

Cam was excellent on Sunday against the Jayhawks. He pitched a complete game (seven innings) and allowed just one hit during his time on the mound. Cam was also able to strike out eight batters as well. Without a doubt, he was the best pitcher on Sunday.

 Best Home Run

Texas C Garret Guillemette

A walk-off home run to sweep Texas Tech? This had to be the best home run of the day.
