Greg McElroy: Spencer Sanders the Favorite to Start for Ole Miss in 2023

Spencer Sanders - oklahoma state qb

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders found his way to Ole Miss where he is competing to earn the day-one starting job for head coach Lane Kiffin.

While it’s not set in stone as to who will start off the season for the Rebels, Kiffin found his way into another quarterback competition through the acquisition of Sanders. Always College Football‘s Greg McElroy spoke on Sanders’ situation expecting him to be, “The guy that I would expect to be under center for the Rebels next year.”

The quarterback competition outside of Sanders includes last-year starting QB, Jaxson Dart, as well as transfer quarterback Walker Howard. McElroy likes the idea of Sanders beating out Dart and Howard with an edge in experience as the difference maker.

“Jaxson Dart is the incumbent but I would not say he is the favorite. I would think the favorite right now, based on potential, based on upside, based on the amount of reps he’s actually gotten at the college level? I would think that Spencer Sanders, the transfer from Oklahoma State, would be the favorite. Sanders is a four-year starter, first-team All-Big 12. He’s thrown for a million yards. He is probably still going to be the guy that I would expect to be under center for the Rebels next year.”

The Ole Miss Rebels have a long off-season ahead to decide which QB will be leading the Rebels into the season opener on September 2nd against Mercer.
