Baylor’s Keyonte George Declares for 2023 NBA Draft

Baylor guard Keyonte George declared for the 2023 NBA Draft on Tuesday, giving the Bears a one-and-one player for the second straight season.

George, the top recruit in Baylor’s 2022 class, announced his intention to declare for the draft on social media.

George was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists, but his play suffered after a late February foot injury. There simply wasn’t enough time for him to properly recover.

But for most of the season he was one of the two most consistent freshmen in the Big 12, along with Kansas guard Gradey Dick.

George and Dick are both considered potential lottery picks for this June’s draft. Dick has not announced his intention after his freshman season.

“Growing up it was always my dream to play for a school that felt like home and treated me like family,” George wrote. “I was blessed to find that at Baylor! To my teammates, to my coaches: Thank you for pushing me every day to be the best version of myself! To all of the fans in Baylor nation: Thank you for taking in a kid from Lewisville and treating him like your own. I am forever grateful!”

Last season the Bears lost two true freshman to the NBA Draft — Kendall Brown and Jeremy Sochan.

Sochan was selected No. 9 overall by the San Antonio Spurs, while Brown was selected in the second round (No. 48 overall) by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was then trade to the Indiana Pacers.
