Saturday Big 12 Baseball Six-Pack: Oklahoma State Snaps Texas’ 16 Game Winning Streak

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

#7 Stanford at Oklahoma

It’s time to pay attention to the Sooners because they deserve plenty of it after Saturday. After winning on Friday, Oklahoma tied the series at one a piece. The Sooners got the scoring started in the first inning as Rocco Garza-Gongora drove in a run to put Oklahoma on top 1-0. Stanford would quickly tie the game in the next inning but Garza-Gongora added another run to put his team back in the lead.

That pesky Stanford team wouldn’t go away because Tommy Troy hit a solo blast to tie the game at two in the fifth inning. Oklahoma went on to add a pair of runs in the sixth thanks to Diego Muniz and Wallace Clark, but Stanford answered back with a two run seventh inning.

Kendall Pettis would be the man to put Oklahoma back on top with his two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh. Stanford would add a run in the eighth, but Oklahoma held on to take game three. With the win, the Sooners have a chance to take the series on Sunday against a top ten Stanford team.

Best Win

#17 Oklahoma State over #21 Texas

The Cowboys needed a bounce back win after falling short on Friday night against Texas. Colin Brueggemann drove in the first run of the game for Oklahoma State in the second inning before Dylan Campbell tied the game at one in the third. That run ended up being the only one Texas would score thanks to the excellent pitching of Juaron Watts-Brown. The Cowboys would add several more runs throughout the game thanks to Brueggemann and Carson Benge as Oklahoma State took game two with a 4-1 victory and snapped Texas’ game winning steak. These two teams will meet up again on Sunday for the series.

Worst Loss

Baylor

After Friday’s disappointing loss, I thought the Bears were going to rebound on Saturday. Instead, they let Kansas score 13 runs on them and lost. With the loss, Kansas took the series and now it appears that Baylor is back at the bottom of the conference. The only way this weekend can get worse for Baylor is if Kansas completes the sweep on Sunday.

Saturday MVP

TCU RF Austin Davis

Austin had a big day on Saturday out in Lubbock against a good Texas Tech team. He finished with a total of 4 RBIs which included a big two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Pitcher of the Day

Oklahoma State RHP Juaron Watts-Brown

Juaron has quickly become the ace of Oklahoma State’s pitching staff and it’s easy to see why on Saturday night against Texas. He pitched eight innings and struck out 12 batters while allowing just a single run. That isn’t easy to do, especially against a team like Texas.

Best Home Run

Oklahoma PH/LF Kendall Pettis

Kendall’s two-run blast in the seventh inning gave Oklahoma the lead and they were able to hang on for the win. His home run played a huge role in their victory.
