John-Michael Wright to Return for Oklahoma State in 2023-24

The Oklahoma State basketball program got a bit of good news on Tuesday as senior guard John-Michael Wright tells CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein that he will return to Stillwater for the 2023-24 season.

In order to do so, Wright will use his extra year of eligibility, making him a super senior for the Cowboys next season. While the rest of the Pokes roster next season is still in question, Wright’s return shores up at least some concerns in the backcourt for Mike Boynton’s squad.

A transfer portal addition ahead of the 2022-23 season, Wright was a two-time All-Big South player at High Point, where he spent three seasons. While there, he averaged 17.4 points and shot 34.6% from behind the arc.

Unfortunately, that success couldn’t help OSU much offensively last season, as they finished dead last in the Big 12 and near the bottom of the country from three-point range.

Wright showed up in big games last season though, turning in a season-high 19 points on the road in games vs. both Kansas and Iowa State and also had 18 points against Texas and, again, against Kansas.

While there are still questions in the Pokes’ backcourt, Wright’s return gives Boynton a veteran presence to build around.
