Kalib Boone Heads to Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: West Virginia at Oklahoma State

An Oklahoma State big is apparently headed elsewhere. According to a report by The Tulsa World, forward Kalib Boone has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Boone is one of now three Cowboys in the transfer portal, as guard Avery Anderson III first did so, followed by Boone and then Moussa Cisse. Forward Tyreek Smith is yet to make a decision on his future.

Boone averaged in double figures scoring for the first time in his career this past season. He notched 10.6 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 assists.

The Tulsa, Okla., native appeared in 123 games over his four seasons in Stillwater, averaging 7.9 points and 16.6 minutes per contest.

Boone set a school record for shooting percentage at 64.2% as a sophomore alongside Cade Cunningham. But his time on the court dipped as the season went on this year.

Of course, Boone’s exit makes it all the more crucial that head coach Mike Boynton and the program find some help on the interior, where McDonald’s All-American Brandon Garrison is coming in to boost.

“But there will still be a learning curve,” Boynton said last month, via The Oklahoman. “There will be an older big guy here. I don’t know who. Maybe one of the guys comes back or maybe somebody recruited out of the portal that will be pushing him around for a couple weeks in June and July, and that’s OK.

“Then hopefully by the time November, December rolls around here, he’ll be ready to take those blows and deliver some back.”

He’ll certainly need some others around him, however. And that’s especially the case now.
