Kansas Transfer Bobby Pettiford Commits to East Carolina

NCAA Basketball: West Virginia at Kansas

One of the many departures from the Kansas Jayhawks into the transfer portal, sophomore guard Bobby Pettiford has officially committed to East Carolina.

Pettiford’s time in Lawrence was greeted with optimism that he would bloom into one of the top Bill Self-type of players we know and love. But with injuries and restricted minutes, Pettiford never fully worked out.

Pettiford averaged 2.2 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and 1.3 APG for the Jayhawks, with his biggest game of the season coming against Omaha in the season opener on November 7 where he scored 13 points and added two assists as well. He also finished in double figures, with 10, in a blowout win over Indiana just more than a month later. Pettiford appeared in 32 of 36 games for the Jayhawks this season.

The commitment to East Carolina is a little bit of a shock, as Pettiford didn’t release a radar of his final few teams as he closed in on his decision.

The East Carolina Pirates had an average season in the AAC, finishing with an overall record of 16-17 and a conference record of 6-12. Pettiford will likely find his way into a starting role under Mitchell Schwartz in what gives him an opportunity to get back on the court and log some minutes. Pettiford was a fan favorite in Lawrence, but has now found his home for at least the 2023-2024 season.
