TCU Lands Coastal Carolina Forward Essam Mostafa

Jamie Dixon

The TCU Horned Frogs are addressing their biggest weakness by adding a big-time player to their starting five. After news broke that sophomore center Eddie Lampkin would be transferring to Colorado, the Horned Frogs were left with a tough situation on the low blocks.

Enter one Essam Mostafa. A junior transfer from Coastal Carolina, Essam Mostafa was one of the most consistent players on the glass in all of college basketball last season which slides in perfectly for Jamie Dixon and the Horned Frogs.

Mostafa was not only a productive scorer, but he also grabbed more rebounds than anyone on his former team. In the 2022-2023 season, Mostafa averaged 12.4 PPG and 10.0 RPG which was good for 14th in the nation.

The talented player from Egypt has a unique ability to find the basketball when a shot goes up which paired with TCU’s fast-break offense becomes a scary thought for anyone in the conference.

The new big man in Ft. Worth steps into a team that competed heavily for a Big 12 title, even beating the Kansas Jayhawks at home.

While the team ultimately fell short, Mostafa enters a proven program with a history of success under Jamie Dixon, and in the event that they can beef up at the guard position, the Horned Frogs should be a threat once again.
