Oklahoma Picks Up Commitment from Former Oregon Guard Rivaldo Soares

The Oklahoma Sooners have landed another huge addition through the transfer portal. Former Oregon guard Rivaldo Soares announced his commitment to Porter Moser’s program over the weekend.

This marks the third starter from another school that Moser has brought aboard in recent days. Soares joins Siena guard Javian McCollum and Pittsburgh forward John Hugley as newcomers over the past few days.

Soares, who played a pair of seasons for the Ducks, arrives after averaging 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game during the 2022-23 campaign. He shot 38.1% from the field and logged 27.9 minutes per game.

The year before, Soares shot it at a better 43.2% clip while managing 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest. He logged 18.2 minutes per game during that, his junior season.

His transfer to Oklahoma makes a ton of sense, considering assistant Armon Gates left Eugene for Norman a few days earlier.

“Armon has been coaching and recruiting at the highest level,” Moser said in a release about his new hire. “He is a grinder in recruiting and brings a tremendous amount of passion to the game. His energy level is contagious and he pours that energy into the players and program. There is value in bringing in a coach you have worked with before and Armon will be an excellent addition to the staff.”

And so, too, will Soares be a great addition to the Sooners’ 2023-24 roster. He has one year of eligibility remaining after beginning his collegiate career at South Plains (Texas) College.
