Baylor Bears Women’s Basketball 2023-24 Offseason Roster Tracker

The Baylor Bears are working on assembling their 2023-24 women’s basketball roster and we’ll track every move here throughout the offseason.

Departures

G Ja’Mee Asberry: Asberry is out of eligibility. In her final season with Baylor she averaged 11.4 points, third-best on the team. She also averaged 2.6 rebounds and dished out 59 assists while shooting 33.5 percent from the 3-point line. She drained a Baylor NCAA Tournament record seven 3-pointers in the Bears’ first-round victory over Alabama.

 

F Caitlin Bickle: Bickle is out of eligibility. The last link to Baylor’s 2019 national title team averaged 11.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She was also one of the few players in major college basketball to shoot 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the 3-point line for the season. She has signed a free-agent contract with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun.

G Jaden Owens: Owens transferred to TCU in May. Owens started 30 of Baylor’s 32 games last season and averaged 8.0 points. He also had a team-high 184 assists.

F Kendra Gillespie: Gillespie transferred to Arkansas State after the season. She played in 12 games last season (one start) and averaged 13 minutes per game. She also averaged 4.0 points.

Arrivals Via Transfer

F Madison Bartley: Bartley officially signed with Baylor on April 13. The 6-foot-3 Belmont forward averaged 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in three seasons while earning all-conference honors twice. She averaged 14.1 points last season. She has one year of eligibility remaining.

G Jada Walker: Walker officially signed with Baylor on April 17. Walker, a 5-foot-7 guard, played two seasons for Kentucky and should have two years of eligibility remaining. She started 53 games for her career, averaging 11.7 points. As a freshman, she was an All-SEC selection. Last season she averaged 12.9 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.

G Yaya Felder: The 5-foot-8 guard officially signed with the Bears on April 17. She played two seasons for Ohio and has two years of eligibility remaining. Last season she averaged 22 points per game for the Bobcats and earned All-Mid-American Conference honors. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists. She scored at least 20 points all but three games last season.

G Denae Fritz: The former Iowa State starter transferred from the Cyclones to the Bears in the offseason. With the Cyclones she was a 2023 Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection and made 43 3-pointers. She reached double figures in 12 games, with one 20-point game, while posting a pair of 10-rebound performances.

In the Portal

F Erika Porter: Porter is in the transfer portal. She played in 15 games, 6.1 minutes per game and scored 23 points.

 

Expected to Return

G Jana Van Gytenbeek: She enters her second season with the Bears after averaging 2.4 points as a backup.

G/F Darianna Littlepage-Buggs: The All-Big 12 Freshman of the Year returns after averaging 10.6 points and 9.2 rebounds last season.

F Kyla Abraham: As a freshman she played in 14 games, scoring 30 points and grabbing 18 rebounds.

G/F Bella Fontleroy: Another freshman, Fontleroy started 16 games, played in 33 and averaged 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Like Littlepage-Buggs, she was on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.

G Sarah Andrews: Andrews was an All-Big 12 First-Team pick after she averaged 14.7 points to lead the Bears. She also averaged 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

G Catarina Ferreria: The first-year transfer played in 23 games last season and averaged 2.2 points per game.

G/F Aijha Blackwell: Blackwell played just eight games due to injury last season after transferring in from Missouri before the season. Blackwell averaged a double-double for the Tigers before she transferred. She announced on social media that she would return for another season.

 

F Dre’Una Edwards: Edwards did not play in the 2022-23 season when Kentucky did not sign her transfer waiver, which became contentious in the middle of the season. Head coach Nicki Collen said in January that she was preparing Edwards for the 2023-24 season.  

Class of 2023 Recruits

C Letycia Vasconcelos, Montverde Academy, Fla.: Vasconcelos will be the tallest player on Baylor’s roster next season. The Campinas, Brazil, native signed in November and at the time she was the nation’s No. 36 recruit per ESPN.com.
