Baylor WR Jaylen Ellis Transfers to West Virginia

The West Virginia Mountaineers had the vast majority of its pass-catching production walk out the door this past offseason, leaving a major void to be filled at wideout.

On Tuesday night, West Virginia added its third replacement at the position, and this one is familiar with the Big 12.

Former Baylor wide receiver Jaylen Ellis will switch out his green jersey for a blue one as he joins NC State’s Devin Carter and Kent State’s Ja’Shaun Poke as WVU’s newest pass-catchers.

Ellis is listed at 6-3, 184 pounds according to Baylor’s previous roster, and can flat-out fly. Coming out of Round Rock (TX) high school, Ellis recorded legitimate 10.4 times in the 100-meter dash and earned All-American Bowl honors as well.

Serving primarily as a deep threat for the Bears, when given a shot, Ellis had three receptions for 154 yards in 2022, averaging an incredible 51.3 yards per reception. His three receptions on the year went for 57, 50, and a 47-yard touchdown against Texas.

Now, given his new opportunity, Ellis will have a chance to be featured in the Mountaineers’ offense for the next two seasons, if he so chooses. With an overhauled roster, Neal Brown hopes that he can turn things around, and he’ll need to in a big way if he wants to keep coaching in Morgantown.
