Jordyn Merritt Announces Transfer to Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders landed a former five-star recruit in Florida transfer Jordyn Merritt, who announced her transfer to Lubbock on Tuesday.

Merritt, who has played three seasons of college basketball and is a product of Plano, Texas, made the reveal on Twitter and other social media platforms.

 

She has one year of eligibility remaining. As this is her first transfer she is eligible immediately. Texas Tech has not officially announced her signing.

Merritt is coming off a 2022-23 season in which she averaged 7.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 21 games with the Gators. She also had 1.4 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 blocked shot per game.

She helped the Gators get to the quarterfinals of the Women’s NIT before losing to Bowling Green. Her best game during the tournament run came against Wake Forest in the second round when he had 15 points and eight rebounds.

The 6-foot-3 forward had a career-best 10.1 points in her sophomore season (2021-22) and also averaged 5.2 rebounds. That season she fired a career-best 41 percent from the 3-point line. She was an All-SEC Freshman Team selection after averaging 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Texas Tech is coming off a 20-15 season in which the Lady Raiders reached the third round of the Women’s NIT before losing to Arkansas. The Lady Raiders and head coach Krista Gerlich lost five players to eligibility, including leading scorer Bre’Amber Scott.

Tech has lost just one player to the transfer portal, freshman forward Lana Wenger.
