Cowboys Transfer Woody Newton Commits to George Mason: Report

Ex-Oklahoma State forward Woody Newton has reportedly found his new home. And that new home is his original home, as reports have him headed to George Mason.
Originally from District Heights, Md., Newton will now embark upon his third collegiate stop in Fairfax, Va. That’s after spending two years with the Cowboys and one before that at Syracuse.
In those two previous stops, Newton averaged 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 37.6% from the field. That included his most productive season in this just concluded 2022-23 campaign, when he managed 4.3 points and 3.4 boards per contest for the Pokes. Newton shot it at a 36.4% clip while starting 13 of 29 games.
Coming out of Mt. Zion Prep, Newton was listed as the nation’s No. 145 overall prospect, No. 29 power forward and No. 4 player in the state of Maryland, with a three-star and 0.9327 rating, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Per 247Sports, he’s was the country’s No. 134 overall prospect, No. 27 power forward and No. 4 player in the state of Maryland, with a four-star and 90 rating.
He signed with Syracuse over other offers such as Arkansas, Cincinnati, Georgetown, Kansas State, Maryland, Penn State, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Xavier.
