Five-Star Texas Signee Ron Holland Requests Release From NLI
Five-star Texas basketball signee Ron Holland has requested a release from his national letter of intent, he announced on social media Friday.
The highest-ranked signee in Texas’ class, Holland was expected to be a major part of the Longhorns’ rotation in 2023-24.
Holland, a 6-8 forward out of Duncanville (Texas) High, is the No. 6 overall player in the 2023 class and No. 3 forward this cycle. Holland chose the Longhorns over Arkansas and UCLA but also received offers from Kentucky, Memphis, Oregon, Kansas, Auburn, and Houston, among others. Before his NLI release request, Holland was Texas’ longest-standing commitment for the 2023 class.
“I want to take this time to thank head coach RT and the entire Texas coaching staff for their consideration,” Holland said. “I would also like to thank the Longhorn Nation for all their love and support. While this has been a difficult process, I have decided to de commit from University of Texas and re-open my recruitment.”
This is the second recruit from the 2023 class that Texas has lost in recent weeks, with five-star PG AJ Johnson electing to play professional basketball in Australia rather than playing for the Longhorns. Now, after losing two of the top 18 players in the 2023 class, Rodney Terry will have to rely on transfers Max Abmas and Kadin Shedrick to pick up the slack.
