Former Texas QB Casey Thompson Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at Texas

Nebraska quarterback and former Texas signal-caller Casey Thompson has re-entered the NCAA Transfer Portal according to a report from On3’s Matt Zenitz.

During his time with the Cornhuskers, Thompson appeared in 10 games and threw for 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns. His 2,407 yards ranked seventh in school history while his 17 touchdown passes tied for 10th in Nebraska single-season history.

Thompson ranked 12th nationally in passing yards per completion (13.9) in 2022, 14th in passing yards per attempt (8.8) and 29th in passing efficiency (150.1), and will certainly garner attention in the portal for the second cycle in a row.

Thompson is the third Cornhusker QB to enter the portal this week, joining Logan Smothers and Richard Torres. The new starter in Lincoln, former Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims, was a four-star transfer in the 2023 cycle and is joined by former Florida State quarterback Chubba Purdy.

Sims threw for 4,464 yards and 30 TDs in 25 games with the Yellow Jackets, adding 1,152 yards and 11 scores on the ground.

The former Longhorns, and now Cornhusker, will be looking for a home to spend his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer, and there should be plenty of interest for the former four-star athlete.
