Roschon Johnson Selected No. 115 by Chicago Bears in NFL Draft

Both Texas Longhorns running backs are now off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears took Roschon Johnson with the 115th overall pick in the fourth round Saturday in Kansas City.

That’s after Bijan Robinson went No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons a couple days earlier.

As for Johnson, he’s plenty potent in his own right, utilized in tandem with Robinson to great success on the Forty Acres.

He rushed for 2,190 yards and 26 total touchdowns on 392 carries over four seasons for the Longhorns. Johnson also hauled in 56 catches for 420 yards and three scores. As evidenced, he provides some dual-threat capabilities in both the rushing and receiving game that will likely give him a chance to really impact things offensively in the NFL.

“Power back with bruising frame who fits the football cliche of ‘tough, smart and dependable,'” wrote NFL.com Analyst Lance Zierlein in his evaluation of him. “Johnson isn’t overly creative and lacks the juice to hit quick-closing NFL holes. He needs it blocked up so he can get downhill and uncork his power on the second level.

“While his lack of suddenness makes him somewhat limited as a runner, he will be better at stuffing blitzers than many of the No. 3 backs currently in the league. Johnson might be fighting off competition every year in camp, but his toughness and four-phase special teams value could give him an advantage.”

He’ll bring all of that now to the Bears.
