Oklahoma Softball Clinches Big 12 Championship

The Oklahoma Sooners are Big 12 softball champions, once again, after an 8-2 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday.

The Sooners actually fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first to the Jayhawks. but OU got two runs on the board in the bottom half of the first inning and rolled from there to improve to 15-0 in Big 12 play and clinching their 11th consecutive Big 12 championship.

 

Alex Storako went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, recording six strikeouts and improved to 15-0 with the win. Jordy Bahl added 1 2/3 innings pitched and extended her streak to 36 2/3 innings pitched without allowing a run. She hasn’t allowed a run over her last eight appearances, which includes five starts.

The Sooners improved to 45-1 on the season and in addition to 11-straight Big 12 titles, OU softball has won 15 overall. The Sooners also extended their nation-best winning streak to 37.

This was Senior Day at OU, so it was the last regular season home game for four OU players, Alex Storako, Haley Lee, Grace Lyons and Grace Green, who were honored in a ceremony after the game. OU will go on to host an NCAA Regional.

The Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Stillwater next weekend for a Bedlam showdown with Oklahoma State.
