Saturday Big 12 Baseball Six-Pack: Kansas State Wins Their Fourth Weekend Series in a Row

Kansas State Baseball

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

TCU vs #24 Cal State Fullerton

If anyone needed a win on Saturday, it was TCU. After getting beat on Friday night, the Horned Frogs needed to win this game to even the series. TCU took a 4-0 lead in the third inning before the Titans tied the game up with a four-run fifth inning. The Horned Frogs would recapture the lead back on a wild pitch in the next inning.

This game was close for a while, but the eighth inning is where this game was won. A bases loaded walk put another run up for TCU before Cole Fontenelle added another. That hit by Fontenelle really got this offense going because after that Karson Bowen, Brayden Taylor, Austin Davis, and Tre Richardson all knocked in runs. And speaking of Austin Davis, check out this amazing catch by him.

By the time the eighth inning was over, TCU had a 13-4 lead and the game ended just like that. With the series even, TCU now has a big opportunity ahead of them on Sunday as they look to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Best Win

Kansas State Over Southeast Missouri State

Don’t pay attention to the opponent here because all that matters is that Kansas State got the win on Saturday. The Wildcats got off to a fast start thanks to a grand slam by Brendan Jones. SEMO would add a pair of runs in the fourth, but Kansas State’s offense continued to stay hot throughout the game. Kansas State went on to hit three more homers in this one as Roberto Pena and Kalen Culpepper went deep with Pena going yard twice.

The win here was important for Kansas State as they clinch the series and are now winners of four straight weekend series.

Worst Loss

Texas Tech

After winning a wild game on Friday night, the Red Raiders looked a little lifeless on Saturday afternoon. Sam Houston State was all over Texas Tech early as they had a 7-0 lead after the fourth inning. Tech’s offense struggled for the first seven innings as they scored just one run before putting two more up in the eighth. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, they were never able to get back in the game as the Bearkats pulled away for the win. Now these two will square off on Sunday in a rubber match.

Saturday MVP

Oklahoma State Catcher Chase Adkison

Chase had an evening to remember because he was all over the place against ESTU. He threw runners out and he was an absolute terror at the plate with 6 RBIs which included a big grand slam in the sixth inning.

Pitcher of the Day

Texas RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr.

Lebarron was excellent against Kansas as he pitched seven full innings and allowed just one run while striking out 12 batters. He was without a doubt the best pitcher in the Big 12 on Saturday.

Best Home Run

Kansas State CF Brendan Jones

Who doesn’t love a grand slam? I know I sure do, and Brendan Jones hit one in the second inning that really set the tone for Kansas State.
