Texas Tech Transfer Jaylon Tyson Commits to California

NCAA Basketball: Texas Tech at West Virginia

The Jaylon Tyson sweepstakes are officially over as the sophomore guard is electing to team up with his former teammate, Fardaws Aimaq, at the University of California.

Tyson toured multiple schools in the Big 12 Conference including Kansas and West Virginia before deciding to leave the Big 12 Conference and join the Pac-12.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound sophomore was a huge piece of Mark Adams’ squad last season, averaging 10.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 1.3 APG for the Red Raiders. After a turbulent season that saw their head coach get fired and a chunk of players enter the transfer portal, Tyson is deciding to follow his Red Raider teammate to California and play for Mark Fox.

Fardaws Aimaq entered the transfer portal just minutes after the Red Raiders played their final game of the season against West Virginia in the Big 12 Tournament. The Red Raiders have now seen five players enter the portal (with the exception of Robert Jennings who returned to Tech) including both Jaylon Tyson and Fardaws Aimaq, as well as KJ Allen, Elijah Fisher, and Daniel Batcho.

New head coach Grant McCasland has his work cut out for him, but with an offseason of departures, comes new scholarship opportunities for big-name talents to potentially join the Red Raiders and restart the culture.
